As God's Word speaks to us throght the scriptures, God speaks to the gathered throught the procalamation of scripture by the Lector. By proclaiming the scriptures in the liturgical assembly, the lector brings to birth the living Word of God and reminds us that God's Word is alive here and now. When a Deacon is not present, the Lector also leads the Prayer of the Faithful (General Intercessions). In this way the minister connects us to both the local and global communities and to pray for those in need.
Eucharistic Ministers will assist the attending Celebrant in dispensing Holy Communion to the congregation the choir as well as shut-ins at large.
At Mass
In every celebration of the Eucharist, there should be a sufficient number of ministers of Holy Communion so that it may be distributed in a reverent and orderly manner. Bishops, priests and deacons distribute Holy Communion in virtue of their office as ordinary ministers of the Body and Blood of the Lord. When the size of the congregation or the incapacity of the bishop, priest, or deacon requires it, the celebrant may be assisted by other bishops, priests, or deacons. If such ordinary ministers of Holy Communion are not present, the General Instruction of the Roman Missal #162 says, "the priest may call upon extraordinary ministers to assist him, i.e., duly instituted acolytes or even other faithful who have been deputed for this purpose. In case of necessity, the priest may also depute suitable faithful for this single occasion."
We are truly grateful to the men and women of our parish who have volunteered to take this awesome responsibility and ministry upon themselves to serve us.
For Shut-ins
There are a number of individuals in our parish who have been specially trained and mandated by our Bishop to bring Holy Communion to those who are homebound, in retirement homes, nursing homes and hospitals.
If you know any individuals of the parish who are not able to join us for Sunday liturgy because of infirmity or age and would like to receive Holy Communion, kindly contact Deacon Brian McDonald.
The Ministers of Hospitality represent the welcoming face of our community. They are graced with the oppotunity to extend Christ's love in this way to both friend and stranger. Ministers of Hospitality welcome those who gather for the celebration, provide assistance and care when needs arise, answer inquiries, take up the collection, organize the gift procession and distribute bulletins and other pertinent information at the end of Mass.
Ushers will direct parishioners to their seats at the weekend Masses. They also take up the collection of gifts or offerings from our parishioners. They may also present the gift of food for our St. Vincent de Paul Society offered during the Presentation of the Gifts at Sunday Mass.
The Altar Committee have formed teams of two people to prepare the sanctuary and sacristy for the weekend liturgies. This work involves the washing and cleaning of the sacred vessels used during the celebration of the Mass. It also involves some light dusting of sanctuary furnishings. The team members usually carry out this ministry on Fridays or Saturdays in preparation for the Saturday evening Vigil Mass.
Altar Servers assist in all aspects of the liturgical celebration. The actions of these individuals hightlight the ritural that is so much a part of the liturgy that we celebrate. They bear witness to the importance and reverence of the celebration and help to ensure that the liturgy unfolds with grace and dignity.
This ministry is open to all children, teens, young adults, and families who have received the gift of Eucharist and would like to serve our Lord and the community in this liturgical role.
We are actively seeking for servers of all ages who have received the Eucharist. Training is provided.
